The 2010 NBA Playoffs officially started in Boston when Kevin Garnett went to battle for fallen teammate Paul Pierce. Garnett elbowed Quentin Richardson twice for heckling Pierce who was injured on the floor in front of the Heat bench.
Pierce and Richardson have clashed in the past. In 2008, both were ejected for trash talking each other when Richardson was with the Knicks. Richardson continued the conflict in the hallway on the way to the locker room.
This time, Richardson trash talked Pierce while he was down in pain. "I told our trainer Jay that (Pierce) is cool and he's doing what he always do, lay down like it's a season-ending injury, then he gets up and he's miraculously fine," Richardson said.
Garnett responded with 2 separate elbows including one strong shot to the head. "I thought what he did was a little disrespectful by standing over a guy that was hurt, just talking nonsense. Before you knew it, it just all broke out."
Garnett will likely be suspended for Game 2 for the intentional elbow to Richardson's head. The action between Richardson & Pierce should intensify as the playoffs continue. This could be a long series and the extracurricular mayhem is already in the mix.
