Top 10 Reasons Why Paul Pierce Shouldn't Have Opted Out

10. Pierce played more like a veteran's exception than a max contract guy under the pressure of LeBron & Artests's defense during the playoffs.
9. In 2005, Latrell Sprewell turned down $21 million over 3 years on his way out of the league. Pierce is turning down even more for 1 season while he's arguably not even in the top 2 players on the Celtics.
8. He was due to make $21.5 million next year as the 2nd highest paid player in the league. Who will want to pay him more?
7. The Celtics already have to re-sign or replace Ray Allen, Tony Allen & Nate Robinson. With Rasheed threatening retirement, why give the Celtics more on their plate this summer?
6. His contract goal is a 4 year deal between $93-96 million. Only desperate fools would pay him that much money- like maybe the Knicks after they miss out on the big free agent fish.
5. Imagine the embarrassment if the Celtics re-sign Scalabrine & let Pierce go.
4. Ex-Celtic Antoine Walker is bankrupt. Recession is in the air. It's not exactly a good time to walk away from $21 million.
3. The "Big 3" have 1 championship to show for all the hype. Unfinished business? Check.
2. What if LeBron swoops in and signs with the Celtics, snatching up Pierce's money and position? OK, unlikely, but still-
1. A bigger contract will eat into any team's wheelchair budget.
