1. Avery Johnson still makes hustle plays, even from the sidelines as a coach. What other coach hits the floor with such focus and intensity? Imagine how hard he would coach in New Orleans, the city where he was born and raised.
2. When he gets teed up, he gets his money's worth and we get ours too. Fire breathing the wrath of fury onto erroneous refs with the conviction of a southern Baptist preacher on Sunday mornin'. Hallelujah!
3. Avery is an action man. He's not Phil Jackson sitting on his throne pondering waterfalls in Montana. He's up and into it, pressing air with giant gestures designed to inspire defense.
4. Avery Johnson is an excellent coach. With Dallas he became the first man ever to win Coach of the Month in each of his first 2 months as head coach. He's the winningest first full season coach with 66 victories. He's since become the fastest to reach 100 and 150 wins. He coached Dirk Nowitzki to his only MVP award. He coached the Mavericks to their only finals appearance which is even more impressive considering he replaced Don Nelson who has the most coaching wins of all time.
5. Chris Paul, David West, Emeka Okafor and Darren Collison will be more motivated to win for a coach like Avery Johnson than other candidates like unproven assistants and recycled coach & analyst goofball Mike Fratello.
