Pune easily overpowered Hyderabad by six wicket during the 53rd IPL match at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal, Hyderabad, on Tuesday. Score
Chasing 137, Hyderabad crossed the target with 10 balls to spare with Sourav Ganguly, playing his first match of this IPL season and Callum Ferguson remaining unbeaten on 32 and 15 respectively.
Pune openers Jesse Ryder and Manish Pandey started the innings on a high note scoring more than eight runs an over. But their partnership came to a close in the seventh over when Hyderabad's left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha scalped Kiwi Jesse Ryder on 33. The ball kept low, even as he attempted a sweep, and entered his gate to crash on to his off stump when the team total was 55/1.
Soon the moment arrived that the Hyderabad crowd was waiting for -- former India skipper Sourav Ganguly arrived and took the crease in his first IPL match of the season.
He started nervously, but gradually gained in confidence at the innings progressed. He even hit a six in his innings to show that he is good with the bat.
However, Hyderabad's leg spinner Amit Mishra claimed the other opener Manish Pandey in the 12th over when he was one run shy off his half-century. Mishra trapped him leg before and Pune were two men down on 93.
Robin Uthappa had played just two balls before being packed off by Daniel Christian on one and Pune were 96/3.
Pune skipper Yuvraj Singh got a taste of some fine quick bowling in the 17th over. A quick one from Daniel Christian took an inside edge off his bat and crashed into his stumps when he was batting on two and the team total was 119/4.
Soon Sourav Ganguly (32 n.o) and Aussie Callum Ferguson (15) came together to finish off the run chase in the 19th over and Pune recorded their second straight win in IPL with a six-wicket win.
Hyderabad innings
Pune restricted hosts Hyderabad to 136/8 during their 53rd IPL match at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal, Hyderabad, on Tuesday.
Hyderabad captain Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and elected to bat.
There was something to cheer for the Hyderabad cricket fans as former India skipper Sourav Ganguly took the field for the first time in this IPL season. Though Ganguly was sporting the Pune colours but that didn't stop the crowds from cheering him on at the Uppal stadium.
Hyderabad openers Shikhar Dhawan and D Ravi Teja got off to a good start. The two scored at a brisk pace putting on 51 runs for the first wicket before Pune captain Yuvraj Singh broke their stand in the seventh over. A top edge was easily taken by Kiwi Jesse Ryder at extra cover and Dhawan walked back for 24.
In the next over Mitchell Marsh got rid of the other opener D Ravi Teja on 30. An inside edge crashed on to his stumps when Hyderabad were batting on 56.
In the 11th over leggie Rahul Shamra trapped opposition captain Kumar Sangakkara leg before on 12 and Hyderabad lost their third wicket on 76. By now Pune were gradually gaining control of the match.
Later in the 15th over captain Yuvraj Singh trapped Daniel Christian leg before on 10 and Hyderabad lost their fourth wicket on 98.
Then Mitchell Marsh came around and claimed there wicket in the 19th over to reduce the opposition to 124/7. J.P Duminy, Sunny Sohal and Amit Mishra - all there fell in the over as Marsh ended with impressive figures of 4-25.
Finally Wayne Parnell got rid of his South African team-mate Dale Steyn in the last over as Hyderabad completed their innings on 136/8.
