Breaking News: Prince seeks to 'reclaim the net'!

Prince is threatening to sue YouTube, eBay, and Pirate Bay as part of a legal initiative to "reclaim the internet" from rampant piracy.

Here are bits and pieces of the Guardian Unlimited who just published this news, to read the entire article click here.

Lawsuits relating to Prince's material will be launched in the US and UK as part of a campaign led by anti-piracy firm Web Sheriff, which is representing the star.

The Web Sheriff managing director, John Giacobbi, said the extent of piracy online has become "ridiculous", spanning videos, music downloads, bootleg merchandise and unlicenced ringtones.

"99% of the stuff online is totally unauthorised," he told MediaGuardian.co.uk.

n the past two weeks, Prince's legal representatives have requested the removal of around 2,000 illegally uploaded videos from YouTube.

Prince joins a queue of media entities planning to sue YouTube. In March, MTV owner Viacom announced a $1bn copyright infringement suit against the site, and in May the English Premier League said it would also sue.

Prince "wants to create a template for other artists", he added. "Prince doesn't really want to go around suing people - he'd much rather people just respected his rights. He will be victorious."

My thoughts on the matter:

I have to admit that I love watching all the various videos I found of Prince performing live or videos of his songs. I am a huge fan, and unfortunately I only saw him perform once this year. Therefore, you could understand why I love these videos so much. At the very least, Prince could control what should go on YouTube and what shouldn't but at least leave us with something. I will always be a true fan of Prince, and I do hope that he's planning on releasing more of his music under his own terms but please give us more.

Prince we love you and we'd just love to see as much as possible of you, your music is perfection, no one else gets even close to what you can do.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this matter!
