Tough Mofo - Jason Terry

Jason Terry suffered a broken left orbital bone (eye socket) from an elbow by Corey Brewer Wednesday night. He went to the locker room & came back after 3 minutes with tissue in his nostrils to stop the bleeding. He played the whole 4th quarter in which he scored 7 of his 26 points.
He's the only Maverick to have played in all 62 games this season.
Now, surgery & he says he'll be back soon.
Jason Terry is a tough mofo.

KJ BDay Salute

Kevin Johnson once made the Knicks so angry that Gregory Anthony came off the bench in street clothes to take a swing at him. Maybe Republican Greg saw politics in Democrat KJ's future.

He gave us an impossible dunk against Hakeem in the playoffs.
Now he's Mayor of Sacramento. Can the Mayor get the Kings some help?

He's down with Obama...

...  & yet he trash talks on Obama's game

Here's some highlights to back it up

Goodbye AI

I'll remember AI for almost always being the smallest guy on the court & being fearless when taking the rock to the rack.

I'll remember the Answer for bouncing back up when guys 100 lbs heavier & 1 foot taller knocked him to the ground.

I'll remember the stat line from his last win where he had more boards (8) than points (7). Like most great players, he found other ways to contribute when his shot was off- even grabbing a rebound against young rookie giant PF  DeJuan Blair.

AI. The Answer. Jewelz. The best Hoya guard of the John Thompson era. The shortest NBA MVP. So many got caught up on "practice". At the same press conference, he also said "(Basketball is) the game that I go out there and die for and play every game like it's my last."

These pictures are taken from his last 2 games.
Looks like the Answer was telling the truth.

Only One #6

LeBron James is reportedly changing his number from #23 to #6 because he wants to honor Michael Jordan's legacy by self-retiring 23. He apparently doesn't know about Bill Russell's 11 championships including 2 as a player/coach, 2 college championships including 1 undefeated season, & gold medal.

Here's a little more about Bill Russell, the 5 time MVP.

He changed the game by jumping to block shots, dominating with a technique that was unheard of in his era. He owned the giant of his day, Wilt the Stilt. Chamberlain might have had bigger stats. Bill had more rings, and his defense on Wilt played a huge part in attaining them.

Openly supporting Muhammad Ali's refusal to be drafted wasn't the popular sentiment in America at the time. Russell did that. While Jordan doesn't campaign against Carolina Crackers because "Republicans buy sneakers too", Bill Russell called out the media of Boston as well as some of the area's citizens for their racist convictions.

He skipped his Hall Of Fame induction. He also skipped the night when the Celtics retired his jersey. Maybe that's why LeBron doesn't remember/respect the magnitude of #6.

Unfortunately there aren't very many highlights showing the defensive dominance of Bill Russell. If there were, maybe we'd have a Blocked Shot contest during All Star Weekend, giving bonus points for blocking a shot and keeping it in play to a teammate.

However, there is a clip that shows a glimpse of what a no-nonsense person Bill Russell is and what kind of intense competitor he was. 1981 NBA Finals, Rick Barry & Bill Russell analyzing a finals game with some dweeb announcer. Barry puts the words "fool", "watermelon" & "grin" in a sentence desribing a photo of Bill Russell. If there weren't cameras present, Rick might have been the next Rudy T.

No disrespect to MJ. LeBron, if you're going to show love to #23, show even more to #6. Bill Russell, a champion on & off the court standing with the likes of Jim Brown & Muhammad Ali, is arguably more impressive than a guy jumping from the foul line in his Republican Hanes.

Lobos, Elbows & Dodos

BYU provokes more retaliatory elbows from the Lobos of New Mexico. This time, the Lobos win the bow wars & the scoreboard, 83-81. Darington Hobson serves up facials on Jughead Tavernari & the rest of the Cougar Goons.

A Timeout for C Webb

Happy Birthday Chris Webber.
Your gift is a public reminder that your Final Four blunders never happened.
You never panicked into an uncalled travel under pressure.
You never called a timeout that you didn't have.
You never allowed Laettner to go out a winner in '92.
Michigan vacated all those games- so they didn't happen.

What did happen was unforgettable slam dunks like these.
